A Tune of Tuna Fish

I’m a vegetarian.

Yes, I am.

I sang A Tune of Tuna Fish when I was around 9 years old and taking piano lessons.

I sang it at the top of my lungs, completely ignoring the non-vegetarian lyrics.

I *still* sing it (quietly to myself) every time someone says tuna.

Oh my.

******

Melody: Lightly Row

Tuna fish, tuna fish

Sing a tune of tuna fish

Tuna fish, tuna fish

It’s our favorite dish!

Everybody likes it so

From New York to Kokomo

Tuna fish, tuna fish

It’s our favorite dish!

I think I’m supposed to be embarrassed about all this, ja?

  1. It has been a long time since I thought of this song…may 60 years. I was looking for some of the old songs (silly or otherwise) to sing at a memorial party for my mother who died recently at age 96 (I’m not kidding). I, too, played it on the piano as part of my long-since failed musical education, and we all used to sing it frequently back then. Thanks fo the post!

    • I love that story!! I’m sorry to hear that your mother passed away recently, but if this is the kind of song you sang at her memorial party (party! neat!), boy oh boy oh boy I think that must have been a wonderful tribute to her memory. I like the way you think.

      Thank you for stopping by!

  2. My daughter was practicing Lightly Row from her piano lesson book… I could NOT get the “Tuna Fish” words out of my head. Its been 45 years since MY piano lessons!

    • Triple grin and yay for piano lessons!!

I’m awfully curious now about how many people wind up singing “Tuna Fish” instead of the words to “Lightly Row”.

      Thank you for stopping by!
