Now I flap flap flap my ABCs

Have you taught your students the semaphore alphabet and numbers yet? No?

Explain as briefly or as not briefly as you desire the general idea behind semaphore flags. Encourage creativity in discussing times when one might need to know this alphabet. (Me: What are they *really* telling the pilot at departure and arrival? “Have a safe trip!” and “Did you bring me souvenirs?”?)

Then, demonstrate the one or two semaphore signals you frantically learned this morning during breakfast. After that, your work should be done: hand each student a semaphore chart and watch the arm flapping begin.
