To catch a peacock

I can’t find much online about the summer when my grandparents’ farm flooded.

I’m not a natural water baby, and as an adult, I’m apt to be frightened at the sight of floods. But as a kid, that particular flood was certainly more exciting than it was frightening.

Plus, my cousins, my sister, and I learned all sorts of useful skills we’ve probably never used much since.

Skills such as what you need to catch a peacock at night.

Flashlight? Grandpa says good.

Uncontrollable giggles? Grandpa says no good.

Elmo costume? I wish I could ask my Grandpa about that one.

[Thanks!]
