Today, toddlers, and books

He’s 2½ years old and a happy chatterboxy handful. Today for the first time he said his name in class. Lately he sits remarkably still when it’s story time.

She’s 4, has been with us less than a year, and recently seems to be regaining the chatterboxy personality she had when she first started with us. Today she floored me when she read aloud Please, Baby, Please, a book I’d read only once to her last week.

He’s 4 and today he wanted me to read David Goes to School instead of Five Little Monkeys. Halfway through, though, he was singing along with the rest of us, smiles and ouches and angry doctors and all.

I’m a whole bunch older than they are, and today I am happily reading Bel Kaufman’s Up the Down Staircase. You’ve read it, yes?
