A smooth robot operator

Ever since we first released it, “What Do You Want for Christmas?” has been a club favorite for our students. The song takes remarkably little time to teach, and the pile of mostly manageable gestures encourages everyone to participate.

But this year I’ve noticed a difference in the robot movements.

My robot movements tend to be jerky stiff movements, reflecting the robots I grew up with.

My students, who are growing up with more lifelike robots around them than I could ever imagine, make robot movements that are smooth and fluid-like. After all, they’ve seen robots play instruments, dance, and tons more.

And now? (Well, back in February.) Marathon-running robots!

I kid you not.

And of course they properly stretched before they started.

P.S. Post title…with apologies to Sade!
